CENTENNIAL, CO - May 9, 2019. OnePager is excited to announce the issuance of U.S. Patent Number 10,282,688, which covers its unique conditional formatting tool for project timelines and Gantt charts. The patent, titled System and Method for Computing and Overwriting the Appearance of Project Tasks and Milestones, was issued today, and is the second in a series of patents on the same technology.

“OnePager continues to deploy unique and time-saving technology to the project management industry,” said Safford Black, founder and COO of OnePager. “At a time when software patents are increasingly harder to obtain, this action by the USPTO underscores OnePager's position as the leader for project/portfolio visualization and reporting.”

OnePager works with Microsoft Project, Project Server, Project Online, Excel, and other PPM tools to create rich, data-driven project timelines and Gantt charts in seconds, saving project managers time and frustration, while making it easier to communicate information about projects and portfolios.

Features of OnePager’s technology protected by the patent include:

  • Conditional formatting rules that assign color, shape, size, border, and font to tasks and milestones on a project timeline.
  • The ability to reapply formatting automatically as underlying project data changes (i.e., when a task status changes from “on schedule” to “complete”). When a rule causes formatting to change due to a change in data, only the current version (“snapshot”) of the timeline is affected. Prior snapshots retain original formatting based on the original project data. This gives users a visual audit trail of how their project or portfolio has evolved over time.
  • The ability to standardize conditional formatting rules into a template for use across a PMO.
