CENTENNIAL, CO - May 26, 2021. OnePager has been issued U.S. Patent Number 11,016,651 for its smart text optimization algorithms, which were introduced in version 7.0 of OnePager Pro and Express.

“One of the biggest issues with project timelines, whether they originate in OnePager or as something homegrown, is that dense charts can be hard to read due to overlapping text,” said Safford Black, COO at OnePager. “These new text optimization algorithms give users the ability to let OnePager do most of the work for them, placing tight-fitting text into a place where it is least likely to bump into something else. Previously, people were making these adjustments by hand, and while the end result might look the same, this new technology reduces trial and error and offers considerable reductions in both time and frustration.”

OnePager works with Microsoft Project, Project Server, Project Online, Excel, and other PPM tools to create data-driven project timelines and Gantt charts quickly and easily. OnePager helps project managers communicate information about projects and portfolios to their stakeholders.

OnePager's new smart text optimization is built on a foundation of two key algorithms. The first measures the size of each piece of text and then seeks an optimal location based on the availability of whitespace. Users have the ability to define which text positions should be fed into the algorithm. In cases where adequate whitespace does not exist, OnePager then employs a second algorithm that applies different treatments to the text to either change or reduce the amount of space required. Example outcomes of this second algorithm include automatic text wrapping, font reduction, and text truncation, all of which are configurable so that users can systematically determine the extent to which these treatments are acceptable.

The official title of the patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office is “System and method for minimizing text collisions in project timelines.”
