Planner Swimlane Chart

OnePager summarizes your project from Microsoft Planner, grouping each major phase into a swimlane.

If you use Microsoft Planner for project management, you need a way to summarize your project in a simple timeline or Gantt chart. OnePager goes beyond the standard reporting in Planner, adding swimlanes that make it easy to separate your project into discinct phases.

OnePager makes it easy to create professional swimlane charts from Microsoft Planner in minutes. Here's how to get started:

  1. Let's start in Microsoft Planner. Notice that our plan has three phases, with each phase having a handful of tasks underneath it:

  2. To build your swimlane chart, launch OnePager Bundle from your desktop:

  3. On the start screen, click New to begin building a new swimlane chart:

  4. On the import wizard, click on Select > BROWSE Project for the web....

    Microsoft is in the process of renaming Project of the web to Planner, so you will see the two platforms referred to interchangeably in this article.

    Connect to Microsoft Planner to import tasks into OnePager.

  5. Once OnePager is connected to Microsoft Planner, you will see a list of available projects that you can import into OnePager. You can import multiple projects into a single timeline, but in this example, we'll just choose the one project that we've been using:

    If you haven't connected OnePager to Microsoft Planner in the past, a window will pop up, prompting you to sign into your Planner account. If you need help connecting to Planner, please reach out to OnePager Support, and we will provide you with some tips.

  6. With your plan ready to be imported from Microsoft Planner, give your swimlane chart a name and click the Select Tasks by Custom Filter option. Here, we'll filter our tasks from Planner so that we bring in only the child tasks, not the summary tasks:

  7. Click on Create new Chart. OnePager will import your child tasks from Planner, and will group them into swimlanes based on the summary tasks, like this:

    In this example, we've chosen to color-code by the phase of the project as well. These settings and more are customizable under Home > Chart Properties.
