Primavera P6 Portfolio Summary

Provide a high-level summary of all projects in a Primavera P6 portfolio.

Get started by downloading a free trial of OnePager, then follow these instructions to see how it works with your own Primavera P6 portfolio:

  1. Let's begin with a Primavera P6 portfolio, which in this case contains seven projects:

    OnePager can import the individual activities or portions of the WBS from each project, but in this case, we're going to bring in the project summary task so that the report stays at a very high level.

  2. To bring the data into OnePager, we should export the portfolio to either a XML or XER format. Go to File > Export and follow the prompts to export the portfolio:

  3. When exporting, make sure that all of the projects in your portfolio are selected. This way, the entire portfolio can be exported into a single XML or XER file, which makes it much faster to import into your OnePager report:

    These files that contain an entire portfolio of projects are sometimes called master files, or integrated master schedules (IMS).

  4. Once your portfolio has been exported from Primavera P6, launch OnePager from your desktop:

  5. When the OnePager start screen appears, click on New to start building a new portfolio summary report from Primavera P6:

  6. On the next screen, go to Select > BROWSE Primavera P6 Files, and import your portfolio from the Primavera P6 XML or XER file:

  7. Now, switch your starting template to one that's purpose-build for portfolio reporting from Primavera P6. Go to Change > BROWSE and select the template called Multi-Project Gantt Chart - Detailed for Primavera:

  8. OnePager can filter the activities in your portfolio to bring in as much or as little detail as necessary. In this example, we only want to display the summary-level activity for each project, so we'll switch OnePager's filter to Project Summary:

  9. Click on Create new chart, and OnePager will import a summary of each Primavera P6 project from your portfolio:
