OnePager is Gantt chart software for Smartsheet that also displays dependencies. Don't have OnePager yet? You can download a free trial and try it out today.
Start with a Smartsheet project. In this example, we are using Smartsheet's Predecessors column to define dependencies between tasks and milestones:
Most dependencies in this Smartsheet project are Finish-to-Start, but a few of the dependencies are Finish-to-Finish. Most of the tasks in this Smartsheet project only depend on one task, but some tasks have multiple dependencies.
-
In this example, we'll bring in the child rows from Smartsheet, and will use the parent rows to group our swimlanes. We can create a filter using a checkbox column. Right-click and go to Insert Column Left. Then add a Checkbox column called OnePager:
-
Now, we can check the box next to any tasks that we want to import into our Gantt chart:
Save your Smartsheet project when you are finished selecting rows.
-
When you are ready to start building your Gantt chart with dependencies, double-click the OnePager icon on your desktop. From the Start screen that appears, choose New.
-
On the import wizard, go to Select > Browse Smartsheet:
If this is your first time using OnePager with Smartsheet, you'll be asked to log into your Smartsheet account.
-
Select your Smartsheet project from the list that appears and click OK:
-
Give your Gantt chart a name, and tell OnePager to filter based on the checkbox field that you set up back in Smartsheet:
-
Click Next followed by Create New Chart. OnePager will import your selected rows from Smartsheet and create a Gantt chart like this:
-
Now, we need to import the dependencies from Smartsheet and display them on the Gantt chart. Go to Home > Chart Properties > Task Links and turn on the setting to Show Data-Driven Task Links:
-
Click OK, and OnePager will import the dependencies from Smartsheet and draw them on the Gantt chart, so that it's clear where there are predecessor-successor relationships:
-
This is starting to look pretty good, but you may want to clean up your dependencies a little so that they're easier to see. You can click on any dependency with your mouse and use the handlebars to change its path:
You can also move text out of the way, or increase the height of your rows to improve the look of your Smartsheet dependencies.
-
After a few adjustments to the dependency paths and task text, we end up with a Gantt chart that clearly shows each dependency from Smartsheet:
