In previous versions of OnePager, when two text elements were located in the same position, they appeared in a specific order. With OnePager 7.0, you now have the ability to rearrange the order of text elements relative to each other.
Horizontal Text Element Ordering
Most of the time, text elements are ordered left-to right. For example, here is a task where both the task name and the start/finish dates are positioned to the right of the task bar. By default, the task name will appear first, followed by the start/finish dates:
However, you can also reverse this order so that the start/finish dates appear first and the task name appears second:
Vertical Text Element Ordering
Beginning with OnePager 7.0, text elements can also be ordered top-to-bottom. For example, here the same task where both the task name and the start/finish dates are positioned to the right of the task bar, but where text element ordering is configured vertically instead of horizontally. By default, the task name will appear on top, followed by the start/finish dates on the bottom:
You can also reverse this order so that the start/finish dates appear above the task name:
Setting the Default Text Element Ordering
To adjust text element ordering for your chart, go to Home > Chart Properties > Task Bars and click on this button:
This will launch the following screen:
The first decision is to decide how your text elements should be ordered in general. There are four options:
- Left-to-Right: The first text element will always appear to the left of other text elements.
- Top-to-Bottom: The first text element will always appear above other text elements.
- Horizontally Inside-to-Outside: The first text element will always appear closest to the task bar, and the next text elements will be farther to the left or right of the task bar.
- Vertically Inside-to-Outside: The first text element will always appear closest to the task bar, and the next text elements will be farther above or below the task bar.
The first two options are the most common. The Inside-to-Outside options give you the flexibility to always have a given type of text element closer to the bar. In this horizontal layout, the task name is always closest to the bar, and all other text elements are positioned farther out:
With this vertical Inside-to-Outside layout, the task name is always closest to the bar, with other text elements farther away vertically:
Changing the Order of Text Elements
Once you have decided whether text should be ordered left-to-right, top-to-bottom, or inside-to-outside, you can decide which text element should be first, second, and third:
These orders are relative, so when you set a particular text element to be first, the remaining elements will automatically cascade to the second and third positions.
In cases where you are not displaying a third element like percent complete, it's ok to still mark that element as third in the order, and OnePager will simply skip it since it's already disabled.
